Um. Probably? There's a lot of that story of memory stuff going around.

[Things that are encouraging: not that.]

What do you mean?

Well like... I was having memory issues [ Which he barely remembers now, but he's almost embarrassed to bring it up ] a lotta last year. And a lotta other people I know have had little memory issues too - like this time last year it was this whole thing with my friend group at the time. And then there's Adfontes which can make you feel special or whatever? I guess that's not really memories, just drugs, but still, I've heard rumors about it.

[She listens, stomach beginning to twist itself into knots. Lys had no idea that people had their memories tampered with so often....as in, at all.]

I....didn't take any drugs. [She manages to keep her tone steady, but the unease that she feels is clear and present in her voice.] What happened last year?

[rashness]

A lot of stuff? [ Err... ] Iunno what it was about last year for the memories though, that's probably a whole other thing. [ . . .

. . . Arietta's... ]

Usually. Usually, the longer people are here, the more stuff gets confused.

[pawper]

[He can hear her bite off a "why?" and audibly swallow. The sound of several deep breaths follow.]

But....I've only been here for maybe four months. Is that long enough to start remembering things that didn't....probably didn't happen, Rin?

[rashness]

Probably not?

[ . . . He really- He...

He...

If he could admit to himself that Arietta was right (and how could he, how could he?) he could admit to Lys that theory. But he doesn't want to, the whole feeling is hard in his gut, twisting... twisting. And he finally shifts a bit on his couch and exhales long. ]

I don't think so. But I've remembered stuff which didn't happen before - event went out where I thought they were.

When it happened, were you....were you not able to get that stuff out of your mind? Like, could you not think of anything else even if you tried?

[rashness]

Yeah. Well, until me and a couple of other guys checked it out - we all remembered someone being somewhere they couldn't be, so we all went down to Ainis and tried to find 'em.

[pawper]

And did you find them?

[Part of her already knows the answer, or thinks that she does. The rest of her isn't so sure. Wouldn't be no matter what Rin said.]

[rashness]

No. None of us did and eventually we realized there's no way they could've been there and went home.

[ But at the time he was so convinced. Hell, when he remembers it he's still convinced ]

[pawper]

[Silence for a little while, broken only by the tense sound of her breathing.]

I see. [There's relief, disappointment, but doubt continues to outweigh both. Despite what she's just heard, despite what Mary has already told her. She doesn't think there will be any real answers for her here.] Well, thanks for telling me what you know, Rin.

[And then she hangs up, heart no less divided than when their brief talk had first begun.]
